The Greater Good “GOODS Program”

4 Paws Animal Rescue has partnered with the Greater Good food program for over 10 years.

Our organization is the current ambassador in the state of Michigan, and services additional surrounding states in the region. Thanks to this partnership we are able to bring more affordable pet food and litter to the area, allowing rescues and pantries to impact even more pets and people. Food and supplies are donated by the truckload from gracious donors, shipped to our partnering warehouses, and later distributed to qualified recipients for a minimal handling fee.

To participate, organizations must meet the following qualifications:

  • Be a 501(c) 3 organization in good standing or a municipal/county shelter.

  • Provide a website including the organization’s mission (Facebook is not sufficient).

  • Have a profile on Guidestar.

  • If shelter, rescue or sanctuary: List adoptable pets online and spay/neuter all animals prior to adoption.

  • If sanctuary: Agree to a site visit.

To qualify for this program as a nonprofit, complete the appropriate application below. You will need to email a copy of your IRS determination letter to qualify.

Annual Recipient Q&A

  • Applications are typically processed within 10 business days.

  • As of early 2022, cost is $0.15 per pound. For example, a 1,000 lb. shipment would cost $150.00.

    Please note that shipping costs can vary based on post office guidelines and standards.

  • We currently have several warehouse locations in and near Detroit, MI.

    When the “Donated Goods” receipt is sent, instructions and details of the distribution will also be included.

    Typical times are weekday mornings, and the occasional Saturday.

  • We have access to all types, brands, and ingredients! Both wet and dry.

    Please note that we generally receive very little cat food.

  • Non dog and cat organizations include wildlife rehabilitation centers, wildlife sanctuaries, bunny rescues, etc.

  • Most groups will arrive with trucks and/or trailers, ready to haul. Others will utilize several vehicles and hand-pack the items.

    For organizations traveling 2+ hours to the site, we recommend working alongside other approved groups to minimize both cost and volunteer hours.

  • We currently maintain a private Facebook group page. Invitations will be sent to two active authorized members of your organization.

    We are very active on this page, so be sure to check for updates!

    Upcoming donations are listed and updated as they come in. This is also where the authorized contact from your organization will put in a request from the current donation.

    Shortly before distribution we will send an email detailing the amount of donations allocated for your group, as well as the shipping and handling cost.

  • At 4 Paws Animal Rescue, we are a group volunteers that are passionate about assisting animal organizations! We do our very best to save furry lives, every single day. We exist to fill hungry tummies!

    We are 100% volunteer-based, and we do our best to respond to inquires, comments, emails, messages, etc, in a timely manner. We ask for patience in getting back with you, but please be assured we will respond as soon as we are able!
